ABOUT THE IDI
The Intercultural Development Inventory is a proprietary assessment tool using a developmental model of intercultural sensitivity. The IDI assesses intercultural developmental competence, i.e., the capability to shift cultural perspective and appropriately adapt behavior to cultural differences and commonalities.
The IDI assesses where you are in your current intercultural competence and creates a corresponding score with which you are able to measure growth. The IDI process aids development through a guided session with an IDI moderator. The individual uses the IDI roadmap to create an IDI Plan to map out an individualized path for their journey of growing intercultural skills and competencies. The assessment can then be reengaged throughout the journey to measure growth and level of competency.
The IDI can also be deployed as a group assessment strategy to capture organizational intercultural competence and to construct a strategic plan to advance transformational leadership for a multifaceted cultural organization. Symstrat can assemble aggregate assessment data to reflect the organizational status or break down units or groups' status. Reengaging the assessment overtime helps track progress and development at those group levels as well.
For the IDI to be most effective, it requires honest and in-depth participation. Therefore, we recommend that the IDI assessment remain confidential between the individual and the moderator. For optimal growth, we recommend that the IDI not be used for performance management or individual human resource management actions, but only as a tool for intercultural development. When used effectively, the IDI empowers the individual, unit, or organization with information and tools to advance their intercultural competencies and acumen.
The IDI is a 50-item 5-point Likert scale questionnaire available online that can be completed in approximately 30 minutes using a numerical scale.
Once you have completed your assessment; you will receive your Individual Profile Report ("IPR") and an invitation to participate in a confidential IDI consultation with a Symstrat IDI Advisor for an overview of your Individual Profile Report scores and answer any questions you may have.
As part of your IDI consultation, your Symstrat IDI Advisor will provide you with a customized Intercultural Development Plan ("IDP"). The IDP provides a roadmap for you to create pathways to advance your intercultural competence and acumen.
A Symstrat IDI Advisor can complete a collective IDI assessment to identify learning gaps, intercultural opportunities, and challenges at the unit, team or organizational level. The IDI Group Profile provides a baseline on the state of the intercultural competency collective.

The Intercultural Development Inventory assessment is not a "one-and-done" process. The Intercultural Profile Report is a baseline that meets you where you are at a point in time on your intercultural development journey.
The Symstrat IDI Process encourages the IDI assessment be completed annually or bi/annually to measure your Intercultural competencies and acumen growth.
